Free Kids Dental

As a parent, making sure your child is as healthy as possible throughout life is understandably a high priority. We aim to provide healthy teeth for life for all of our patients, and we offer bulk billing as part of the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provided my Medicare. This scheme started in January, 2014 and provides benefits for basic dental services to eligible children aged 2-17 years.

A range of services are available including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.

The CDBS total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child over two consecutive calendar years. If less than $1,000 is used in the first year, the remaining balance can be used in the second year if your child is still eligible. Any remaining balance will not be carried forward at the end of the second year. The two year period starts at the beginning of the calendar year in which the child becomes eligible and receives their first dental service.

The CDBS does not require an application or registration, if a child is eligible a letter will be sent from Medicare. To be eligible a child must be aged between 2-17 years, be eligible for Medicare and their family must receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Australian Government payment.

To confirm eligibility call Medicare on 132 011, alternatively we can check eligibility at the time of your appointment.

Regardless of whether your child is eligible for the CDBS, they will still benefit from the same high standard of care that all of our patients receive. We have highly trained staff, including dentists who are experienced in providing dental care to children.
